Editorial update — 11 October 2026.
A trend should be based on more than one anecdote. Three observable developments appear in official Australian gambling material from 2026: continuing action against prohibited offshore services, Parliament's August reform package and named self-exclusion enforcement decisions. These are regulatory themes, not predictions about operator revenue or the behaviour of every person who gambles.
Illegal-site enforcement
ACMA reported 1,822 illegal gambling and affiliate websites blocked cumulatively by 24 September 2026. Its April–June compliance report recorded 187 referrals during that quarter. The agency also published a July warning concerning promotion of an illegal offshore gambling service on social media. Together, those notices show that enforcement considers promoters as well as primary operators.
Reforms with a future date
The August Gambling Reform package covers wagering advertising, inducements, self-exclusion and action against illegal services. Government guidance places its major start date at 1 January 2027. It would be inaccurate to chart 2026 compliance changes from future rules that had not commenced as of this article's review date.
The self-exclusion dimension
ACMA's September Dabble and Palmerbet notices indicate that BetStop implementation is already an enforceable obligation for Australian-licensed wagering operators. Such operators are not the same as real-money online casino providers, whose supply to Australians is already prohibited.
